First, I speak in order to share my personal recovery from the disease of alcoholism so that the many millions who still suffer from the malady today might find the same kind of incredible sober life that has been given to me.
Second, I speak to share the comfortable spiritual life I have found…the kind of spirituality I believe forms the foundation for true and lasting recovery from a multitude of ills and suffering as well as the linchpin for a life filled with joy and contentment.
William G. Borchert is a screenwriter, film producer and author, nominated for an Emmy for writing the highly acclaimed movie, “My Name Is Bill W.” The film, about the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, starred James Garner, James Woods and JoBeth Williams was based on material gathered from personal interviews and in-depth research.
Mr. Borchert began his writing career as a journalist, working first as a reporter for one of New York City’s largest daily newspapers and also for a major international news service. Later, as a byline feature writer, he covered many of the most important national and international stories, from political campaigns to the Cold War.
After writing for a national magazine and creating syndicated shows for radio, he became a partner at Artists Entertainment Complex , a new independent film production and talent management company that went to produce a number of box office hits. These included “Kansas City Bomber” starring Raquel Welch, “Serpico” starring Al Pacino, and “Dog Day Afternoon” also starring Al Pacino.
A member of The Writers Guild of America and a director of The Stepping Stones Foundation, Mr. Borchert has written several books. These include “The Skyline Is a Promise” published by Hold, Rinehart, Winston, “The Lois Wilson Story: When Love Is Not Enough” published by Hazelden Publishing Company and “Sought Through Prayer and Meditation” also published by Hazelden. Hallmark Hall of Fame is currently developing a movie based upon Mr. Borchert’s “The Lois Wilson Story” and Hazelden is planning to publish another one of his books called “God Shots.”
While busy traveling and speaking across the country, Mr. Borchert and his wife, Bernadette, find time to relax at their lovely home in Little River, South Carolina where they are frequently visited by their nine children and twenty three grandchildren.
